The age of the Jetsons really is here. The communicator on the wrist with picture phone? Yep, it is here.
I spent numerous hours on the phone, Friday, with spokespeople from a company that is poised to revolutionize the telephone industry. I know. You’ve heard that before. Well, check this out.
Beginning today, this company is offering an internet phone service, and yours truly will be one of the beta-tester. If it’s all that, you can say good-bye to your expensive cellular phone service. What do I mean?
For one very low monthly price, you’ll have unlimited global calling. You can use this service with your existing internet service (cable, DSL, wi-fi) and/or use it with a data equipped cell phone (Blackberry, I-phone, cell phones that provide data service). Here’s how it works:
You get an Internet phone number (I-num) for free. You purchase a monthly service plan to go with it. The charge is minimal. I mean less than one pack of cigarettes per month!
For the computer/internet, you download a soft phone. This is absolutely free. Configure your I-num to the softphone and make all the calls you want–inclusive with the less than one pack of butts service plan. With your I-num, you can call landlines, cell phones and, of course, other I-nums.
It does become more complex using an I-num with your cellphone. Your cell must be data compatible. You can use a data plan through your carrier (Verizon, T-Mobile, A.T&T, etc). Your you can purchase a data sim card at Wal-Greens, etc and place it in your phone. Configure your I-num and make your calls.
I currently do not have a data plan on my cell phone. I can receive calls from I-nums, but can not place a call. However, I can install a data sim card, which costs around $20, in order to place I-num calls.I won’t use my cell minutes, because it is a data service. And data cost much less than cell minutes.
The I-num is transferable. I can use it on my computer when I’m home, then transfer it to my cell when I’m away.
So, what’s the big deal? You get more bang for the buck with data then digital cell service. Depending on package plan purchased for data bits, you can get up to 83,000 phone use minutes, and you don’t have to use them in one month! THAT’S HUGE!!
I’m still learning about this telephony. I-num sounds fabulous, inexpensive and for folks who travel the country and world and live off the cell phone, this technology is going to save you big time. Why would you or your company stick with Nextel?
This same company is rolling out a cellular-sized picture phone. The picture phone allows you to see who you are talking to. Don’t worry, woman in your underwear. You also have the capability to turn off the video.
I’ll have more about this blazing technology and how you can get involved in my upcoming newsletter. Register for MIND YO BUSINESS Newsletter for free on the right side of this blog.
I’ll talk briefly about I-num on Saturday’s show. The bulk of the first hour will focus on List Building/Prospecting.
On the Travel Hour, Calvin Young, a former Amtrak Program Analyst maps out autumn journeys the choo-choo way. Plus, my Deals and Steals.
